Foreign Students of PetrSU Get Acquainted with Traditional Russian Culture and Way of Life
Ethnomuseum of PetrSU hosted an education session on Russian language for 1st year students of the Institute of Medicine coming from Jordan.
2nd year students of the Institute of Philology under the project "Word Museum" prepared and conducted the education session (concept developer is Associate Professor Anna Skoropadskaja).
Virtual excursion was dedicated to such objects of traditional way of life, as gorshok [pot], vereteno [hand spindle] and samovar. In mini-lectures, students-philologists Marina Buturlina, Daria Pisareva, Daria Zaboeva, Maria Eltsova, Ksenia Yakovleva, Angelina Smolentseva told the other students about conceptual and cultural significance of these words in Russian language and could display the objects through the museum exhibit, which they refer to, describe their functions and features.
Students got to know about a link between the words vereteno [hand spindle] and vremya [time], gorshok [pot] and goret’ [burn], studied the idioms, sayings and proverbs containing these words, realised how the mentioned objects were used in domestic and ceremonial activities, how they were represented in folk literature and fine art. Following the classes, a museum specialist Elizaveta Maksimova provided an excursion to those who wished.
Students majoring in teaching have been working on the project "Word Museum" for a year. During this period guys have prepared 13 virtual linguaexcursions which can be used in providing learning and excursion classes. The instructor of students-philologists is Irina Diachkova, an employee of Laboratory of Linguistic Local Studies and Language Ecology .
