“French is Not Only About France!”

The Scientific Library of PetrSU held a ceremony of awarding winners of the competition "French is not only about France", that was held among PetrSU students who recited works by poets from French-speaking countries: France, Belgium, Switzerland, Monaco, Luxembourg, Canada, Tunisia, Morocco, Senegal, Niger, Côte d'Ivoire, etc.

The competition was organized by the Department of the German and French Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages, the Scientific Library of PetrSU, the Student’s Union of PetrSU.

Husni Hamza, a participant and a student of Preparatory Faculty, who came to PetrSU from Marocco, told us:

I really like studying at PetrSU, I met students of different nationalities. I already have many friends here. I’m studying Russian at the Preparatory Faculty, since I plan to continue my studies at the Institute of Medicine. In my opinion, the French poem "Life is Beautiful", which I chose for the competition, has a deep and important meaning. This is a philosophical discussion about what can be beautiful in life.

Wankpo Sonon Sètondé Barbara Brunelle, the 3rd year student at the Institute of Foreign Languages from the Republic of Benin in West Africa:

I am a third-year student at the Institute of Foreign Languages and I plan to become a translator. I also write books. I recited two poems at the competition. One of them is very spiritual; it is about the sky and dawn. The second poem is of my own composition, about love, about how it changes life.

As a reminder, the competition was held in two categories:

• "Reciting a poem in French";
• "Reciting a poem in Russian".

The competition convened students of Petrozavodsk State University: the Institute of Foreign Languages, the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences and the Preparatory Faculty.

The performances were evaluated by a competent jury panel headed by Vasily Katarov, Vice-Rector for Discipline and Social Work of PetrSU.

Nomination "Reciting a poem in French":

Grand Prix - Wankpo Sonon Sètondé Barbara Brunelle, the 3rd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages

• 1st place – Yana Podzhyunene, the 2nd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages
• 2nd place - Ekaterina Dementieva, the 2nd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages
• 3rd place - Olga Atroshenko, the 2nd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages

Nomination "Reciting a poem in Russian":

• 1st place –Alexandra Buryanina, the 5th year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages
• 2nd place - Anastasia Isaeva, the 3rd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages
• 3rd place - Polina Gabukova, the 3rd year student of the Institute of Foreign Languages

Special prizes of the Scientific Library of PetrSU:

• Maria Amozova, the 3rd year student at the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences
• Husni Hamza, the Preparatory Faculty Student.

Employees of the PetrSU Scientific Library organized a thematic book exhibition.
