"Open Dialogue"
Within the "Open Dialogue" project of the PetrSU Coordinating Center for Combating Terrorism and Extremism, students of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences met a well-known Finnish activist, historian and political scientist Johan Bäckman.
The conversation touched upon the differences in the perception of past and current events in Russia and Finland, the changing position of foreign colleagues on Russian-Finnish historical topics.
Denis Popov, Dmitry Eloshin and Mikhail Petrov, the students of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences, introduced the website "Places of Compulsory Detention of the Karelia's Population in 1941-1944" created under a grant from the Head of the Republic of Karelia where the authors publish sources and interactive map.
Johan Bäckman highly appreciated the work of the students.
During the meeting, participants pointed out some possible directions for further cooperation between Petrozavodsk and Finnish historians.
