Three PetrSU Teams Got into the Semifinals of the ICPC World Championship
Competitions of sports programming are held annually all over the world, but the ICPC World Championship is the most important of them. There are several interim stages before programmers take part in competitions at the world level. On the 5th of November three PetrSU teams successfully competed at one of the interim stages - the quarterfinals of the ICPC Championship. The teams from the North-West of Russia took part in the competition and our students showed the best result in the past few years.
The teams that performed well at the qualifying stage, which was held for our students at PetrSU, took part in the quarterfinals:
- Anton Lavrov, Kirill Krishtal, Dan Roytburd
- Nikita Anisimov, Natalia Sobyanina, Evgeny Smirnov
- Daniil Alekseev, Elizaveta Gasova, Dmitry Simagin
The quarterfinals took place in Saint Petersburg and were organized by ITMO University. One hundred teams from different cities of the North-West of Russia took part in the championship. After registration the students got badges with their names and name of the university, souvenirs and passes to the ITMO building. The contest was held in new modern classrooms, and before the event the students could prepare for the competition in a comfortable student co-working space.
The programmers had to solve as much algorithmic problems of different complexity as possible in 5 hours. Our experienced teams showed off their skills by taking the 15th and 22nd places in the ranking while the third team of promising newcomers performed well in their first major competition and took the 56th place in the general classification.
The first PetrSU team became the best non-resident team and got the prize from the sponsor of the competition – the VK Company. The team received a certificate for free trip to the next stage - the semifinals of the ICPC World Championship. The best teams from the whole northern Eurasia will take part in this competition.
