International round table on translation studies at IFL PetrSU

The Institute of Foreign Languages hosted a meeting of the international scientific and practical round table "Topical issues of modern translation studies." The work was organized by the Department of Modern Translation Technologies of the Faculty of Intercultural Communications of the Educational Institution of Minsk State Linguistic University, the Department of German and French Languages and the Department of English Language of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Petrozavodsk State University.

The event, held in a mixed format, was attended by 16 students - linguists from various areas of training, as well as students from the Derzhavinsky Lyceum in Petrozavodsk.

The topics of the reports were very diverse: from the problems of literary translation of poetic texts, neologisms in the fantasy genre, intercultural communication (ethno-cultural features, associative fields) to the peculiarities of the translation of media texts.

Participants from Petrozavodsk and Minsk adequately presented the intermediate results of their research work. Here are some reviews from participants of the International Round Table.

Elizaveta Likhacheva, 4th year student at the Institute of Foreign Languages, PetrSU:

It is very pleasant that we continue the scientific collaboration with students and teachers of MSLU, which began last academic year. For me, this is already the second joint conference with Belarusian colleagues. All the reports given at the round table were very informative and interesting. Minsk students pleased us with the variety of topics presented, non-standard perspectives and approaches to translation studies. It is gratifying that our guests were Petrozavodsk schoolchildren, who spoke at the forum along with university students. I thank the organizers for giving me the opportunity to speak at the conference! We look forward to our next meetings with Minsk residents.

I took part in a round table dedicated to current issues in modern translation studies. First of all, I would like to thank the organizers for the opportunity to speak at the international conference. This was a new experience for me, and I am very glad that I was able to participate! There were many speakers at the round table; everyone presented very interesting topics related to translation. I was very impressed by the reports of schoolchildren from Petrozavodsk. They presented high-quality research on selected topics and confidently spoke in front of university teachers and students.

I really liked both the organization of the event, which took place at a high research level, in a pleasant, creative atmosphere, and the topics of the presentations. Students of MSLU and Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU shared with each other their research experience in the field of translation studies and their scientific achievements. I am very glad that I had the opportunity to attend the International round table, and I hope that the tradition of holding such joint events will be continued.

The round table is a wonderful platform for exchanging opinions on translation issues. The performances of students and schoolchildren showed their deep immersion in the multifaceted nature of the translation process and an interesting choice of material for research. I believe that this is only the beginning of our new form of cooperation with MSLU. I would like to wish all participants further successful research work.
