Results of the Project "Week-end in French"

17 April 2024
On April 13, the last French language class of this academic year was held for primary schoolchildren in Petrozavodsk.

Since October 2023, twice a month on Saturdays, schoolchildren in grades 4–6 from educational institutions in our city visited the Pedagogical Innopark to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of the French language.

Under the guidance of teachers of the Department of German and French Languages of the Institute of Foreign Languages N.S. Barymova and S.A. Lukkonen, 4th and 2nd year students of the Teacher Education program (speicalty "French and English") of the Institute of Foreign Languages, as part of a course on methods of teaching the French language, develop tasks for schoolchildren in a playful way.

In the last class, students tried to summarize the results of the studying of the French language. The tasks were presented traditionally in the form of stations, at one of which the schoolchildren were treated to a small surprise - a conversation with a real native French speaker - a 2nd year student of the Zilber Medical Institute Illoye Jeana Bertina, studying on the "General Medicine" program.

At the end of the class, the participants received certificates of participation in the project and a book of fairy tales in French. Here are some impressions from the participants.

Daria Blokhina, 4th year student at the Institute of Foreign Languages:

“The "Week-end in French" project was an incredible discovery for me. This was both an opportunity to overcome my own fears of working with children, and an opportunity to bring my ideas of creative exercises to life. The children have been familiarizing themselves with the French language in a relaxed playful atmosphere from October to May of this academic year, thereby becoming imbued with its intricacies. Some began to study French as a second foreign language at school, and these classes became an indispensable help for them. And there are those who study French only as part of the project, which especially inspires the organizers.

Elena Vasilievna Kuritsyna, Deputy Director for Foreign Languages, Specialized Language Secondary School No. 3, UNESCO Associated School, French language teacher:

“I thank the Institute of Foreign Languages of PetrSU for the opportunity to participate in the project. Our fifth-graders enjoyed attending classes at the university. The project participants showed excellent knowledge in school French classess and remained motivated to study throughout the entire school year, which is the key to successful language learning.

Yulia Zinovieva, 6th grade student of the Specialized Language Secondary School No. 3, UNESCO Associated School:

“The "Week-end" project brought a lot of knowledge, communication, everything is well explained and told. The atmosphere in class motivates to study topics, I’m looking forward to new classes!
