Professor of PetrSU Opens International Lecture Series at Minsk State Linguistic University

On September 20, international lecture series organized by Minsk State Linguistic University and its partner universities from Russia and Belarus started. The first online lecture was given by Irina Kotyurova, Associate Professor, Head of the Department of German and French Languages (Institute of Foreign Languages, PetrSU). The topic of the lecture was Corpus Technologies in Teaching Foreign Languages.

During her interactive presentation, the lecturer spoke about the main linguistic corpora available to users in Russia and Belarus, described the general methodology of the teaching approach based on big data, and gave examples of direct and indirect corpus applications in foreign language classes based on REALEC and PACT (Petrozavodsk Annotated Corpus of Texts). The listeners learned about the possibilities of using linguistic corpora in education and received some links for further study of the topic.

The international lecture series provides a unique opportunity to listen to lectures on linguistics given by lecturers from MSLU and other universities. Such cooperation enables academic community from Russia and Belarus not only to share and discuss their research experience by means of lectures and reports but also learn about studies of colleagues from other universities.
