Competence Center for Northern and Arctic Tourism to Open at PetrSU
The creation of the center is due to the growing interest in the unique natural and cultural attractions of the northern regions of Russia.
The Arctic and Karelia have enormous potential for ecological, ethnographic and extreme tourism, which remains underdeveloped. In the context of global competition among tourist destinations, it is important to actively develop infrastructure and improve the qualifications of specialists in this area.
The main functions of the new center will include:
development and implementation of educational programs aimed at training highly qualified personnel for the northern and Arctic tourism industry;
conducting scientific research to ensure sustainable tourism development in the region;
organizing events and trainings for representatives of the tourism business aimed at improving the level of service and introducing innovative technologies;
assistance in developing new routes and tours that take into account the peculiarities of northern nature and the culture of indigenous peoples.
Head of the Department of Tourism at PetrSU, PhD in Economics Natalia Kolesnikova, emphasized the importance of the project:
“The Competence Center will become an important link in the formation of a competitive tourism infrastructure in our region. We will be able to combine the efforts of science, education and business to create unique tourism offers. The northern territories have incredible potential, and our task is to reveal this potential while preserving the fragile nature and original culture.
