TIS Theater Studio

The TIS Theater (Theatre named after Sunghurov) carries on the traditions established in the 1950-s by the creator and long-time director of the university student theater Yurii Sunghurov.

Today the theater troupe has over twenty undergraduate students of different institutes, the recent graduates and the group of “veteran” actors from the National theatrical troupe.

Throughout its history the theater has produced over 13 performances:

• The Vanka Kain play based on the edgy parable by contemporary Russian playwright Konstantin Skvortsov performed by the senior experienced actors (directed by V. Ananin)
• The Shadow after the philosophical tale by Evgenii Shchvartz that was the first performance of the young actors (directed by L. Prokhorenko and G. Mikhailiuk)
• The comedy My Profession is Senior From Higher World by Julio Skarnacci and Renzo Garabuzi (directed by V. Ananin, G. Mikhailiuk, L. Prokhorenko)
• Bernard Shaw’s The Dark Lady of the Sonnets (directed by S. Fomin)
• Chekov’s Anniversary (one-act skit) (directed by Sergei Fomin)
• 8 Women after Robert Thomas’s play, a police crime drama in 2 acts (directed by G. Mikhailiuk and L. Prokhorenko)
• My Profession is Senior From Higher World by J. Skarnacci and R. Garabuzi, B. Shaw’s The Dark Lady of the Sonnets, R. Tomas’s 8 Women, and A. Chekov’s Anniversary have been included into the repertoire of the theater
• Stage the second Chekov’s one-act play Proposition (directed by S. Fomin)
• He, She, Window and a Body based on Ray Cooney’s play Out of Order (directed by V. Ananin)
•  Swan Song by V. Krasnogorov (directed by G. Mikhailiuk and L. Prokhorenko)

Achievements

• The Theater Studio has been twice given the rank of the National Theater.
• At the 1st All-Union Folk Festival TIS was the first among the national theaters of Karelia to become the All-Union prize-winner.
• The theater group and the actors are awarded by 19 diplomas of the All-Russian and republic-wide festivals.
• At the All-Russian festivals, the actors of the Theater Studio have been the winners in the following nominations: The Best Character Role, Continuity of Generations and Preserving Theater Traditions, Best Actor and Dashing Actor Duo.
• The young actors of the Theater have been taking part in the City Day festivities for several years already (The Illusions of the Old Town performance).
• The TIS Theater Studio have been entrusted to hold one of the most important events of the university, the Grand Concert dedicated to the 70-year anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War.
