Skill Upgrading in Forest Certification at PetrSU
In October the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences of PetrSU held skill upgrading courses in the area of forest certification.
Forest certification has been extensively introduced in Russia since 2000. The aim of the certification is to monitor compliance with additional requirements to the work of lumber companies regarding economic, ecologic and social aspects.
The attendants of the courses were over 30 people, mainly harvester operators. The courses covered such topics as “Preservation of biodiversity in cutting areas”, “Mitigation measures”, “Disposal of industrial and domestic waste”, “Job safety and safety measures”, “Living conditions in the forest”, etc.
The courses were organized in the framework of the project of the Karelia ENI CBC Program “Boosting Forest Cluster SME Business in two Karelias”.
