PetrSU Students in Stockholm
This November students and the senior teacher of the Department of German Philology and Scandinavian Studies Mariya Konovalova visited Stockholm at the invitation of the Swedish Institute (Svenska Institutet).
The 2nd and the 4th year students who study the Swedish language had a chance to spend a week in the capital of Sweden. The students visited many memorable events and of course, met other students from Russia who also study Swedish.
The tour and educational program included visits to Stockholm University, Riksdag, Royal Library, organizations offering help to women in difficult situations and protecting their rights on the whole (“Kvinna till kvinna”, “Alla kvinnornas hus”), rehabilitation center, meeting with representatives of youth unions, political parties, as well as communication with Swedish students who study the Russian language, visits to cinema and theater.
The program was eventful and equally engaging. The students had time for the events and walks around Gamlastan (Old City) and Drottninggatan (main shopping street).
Everyone enjoyed the trip:
It was very interesting and captivating. I’ve been constantly practicing the language. I have considerably broadened my knowledge of the culture and political life of Sweden. I enjoyed every bit of it!
This program has been an amazing opportunity to use the knowledge of the Swedish language in practice, as well as immerse in the culture of Sweden and learn something new about it. We have met political activists, representatives of various social organizations and journalists who have shown us this country from different viewpoints. I particularly enjoyed the visits to cinema and theater, meeting with Swedish students who study the Russian language. We have made friends not only in Sweden but from different corners of Russia. I would be happy to return to Stockholm sometime but more proficient in the language!
I am at a loss for words to describe these six days. Stockholm is magnificent, it is already preparing for the holidays. The events were interesting and engaging. I immensely enjoyed the meeting with political organizations, NGOs supporting women, the Amnesty Int.
These trips are beneficial for students as they provide language practice, immersion in the language environment, give an opportunity to see the “inside” of political, social and cultural life in Sweden, give a boost for further self-development.
