KA5041 project Green Nature Based Solutions in Tourism to reduce negative impact on the environment (NatureBeST) continues.

Despite remote work, activities under the project Green Nature Based Solutions in Tourism to reduce negative impact on the environment carry on.

The participants of the project both on the Russian and Finnish sides are in constant online contact, as they share messages and hold videoconferences. The modern equipment procured in the framework of the project largely facilitates this.

PetrSU as the Lead Partner coordinates the activities of the project consortium. Now the team finishes preparation of recommendations for owners and directors of small tourist properties in Karelia in the context of using modern sustainable technologies and equipment. The tourism sector is suffering the consequences of the pandemic but new technological solutions can help save costs of tourism companies for the maintenance of their property and improve the economics of their enterprises.

Since autumn 2019, the Urozero education and recreation center has been the premise for research and engineering work aimed at searching and implementing the most efficient technical solutions that decrease energy consumption and negative impact on the environment. The works are done in four areas: reconstruction of the heating system, renovation of wastewater removal system, energy efficiency and heat insulation, and installation of energy-efficient lighting.

Calculations show that these improvements will allow PetrSU to save hundreds of thousands of rubles in the future.

The project involves students and faculty of relevant institutes of the university. Thus, we now consider the involvement of the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences in the project seminars, publications, as well as encourage the students to use the Urozero center as an educational and demonstration center to study energy- and resource efficiency, as well as premises for working on theses and course papers.
