New Book on the History of the City of Sortavala
Helsinki hosted the presentation of the joint monograph Sortavala: the City of Changes and Memories (Sortavala: muutosten ja muistojen kaupunki / Toim. T. Hämunen ja H. Itkonen. Helsinki: Suomalaisen Kirjallisuuden Seura, 2020. 443 s.). The editor of the book is the Doctor Honoris Causa of PetrSU, Professor Emeritus of the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu) Tapio Hamynen, among the authors of the monograph are historians of PetrSU.
The book was published by the Finnish Literature Society, well known among academicians. Two PetrSU historians have contributed to the monograph: the Director of the Institute of History, Political and Social Sciences, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Sergey Verigin, and Professor of the Department of National History, Doctor of Historical Sciences Alexander Pashkov. Sergey Verigin authored the chapter on the post-war history of the city New Citizens of Sortavala, while Alexander Pashov prepared the chapter Transport and Tourism in cooperation with Tapio Hamynen and Hannu Itkonen.
The publication of the book proves that the scientific cooperation between historians of PetrSU and Finnish universities have a long-standing and steady foundation and continues to develop.
