Second Edition of the Book "The Folk Songs of the Kestenga Karelians"
The Book The Folk Songs of the Kestenga Karelians was presented to the 4th year students of the Institute of Philology (program “Finnish Language and Literature, Karelian Language”) and the Institute of Education and Psychology (program "Pedagogical Education (with two specializations)", the program “Primary Education and Native Language (Karelian)”).
The second edition was presented by Maria Kundozerova, the executive editor of the scientific journal, Ph.D., research scientist of the Folklore Sector and Phonogram Archive of the Institute of Linguistics, Literature and History of the Karelian Research Centre, the Russian Academy of Sciences.
The first edition of the book within the "Karelian folklore monuments" series was published in 1989. Since then these series have been highly relevant. The book reflects the oral and poetic tradition of the Karelian population in Louhi region, mainly, epic, wedding and children's songs, charms, lamentations, and yoigi collected in 1970−1980.
The book remains rare considering 30 years since the first edition. Folklorists, ethnographers, and everyone interested in Karelian culture were pleased with the release of the second edition. It often serves as a reference book for students.
