Russian Science for «Detection of Borrowings»
Irina Andrianova, the Head of the Sector of Scientific Electronic Journals of PetrSU, participated in the Fifth International Scientific and Practical Conference on «Detection of Borrowings», which was held online via the platform of Anti-plagiarism [Antiplagiat] company.
The event discussed the problem of plagiarism (or copy-paste) in the educational and scientific communities, in particular, the most relevant issues were raised: quality criteria for the scientific journal Web of Science; terminological, legal, moral foundations of anti-plagiarism; abuse of self-citation, self-plagiarism, translation into other languages; the increasing number of «predatory magazines»; word processing in an attempt to bypass the Anti-plagiarism system and its consequences; algorithms and technologies of borrowings detection; the latest evaluation methods of authenticity.
The speakers at the conference became representatives of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation, the Higher Attestation Commission of the Russian Federation, the Federal Service for the Supervision of Education and Science, the Russian Academy of Sciences, the council for ethics of scientific publications Association of Scientific Editors and Publishers (ANRI), National Electronic-information Consortium (NEICON), employees of leading universities, libraries, publishing houses and the media, the scientific electronic library eLibrary.ru, developers of information search systems and services. International-level professionals also spoke at the meeting.
«Thus, Professor Debora Weber-Wulff, Berlin Higher School of Economics and Technology, who is called a «plagiarism hunter» in Germany, spoke about the active anti-plagiarism measures among students taken by German universities. There, a student convicted of cheating other people's thoughts is expelled from the institution. Moreover, he loses a right to study in this program, not only at home university but also at any other university in the country. The anti-plagiarism program appeared in Russia 15 years ago», said Irina Andrianova.
The speakers demonstrated to the conference participants that a fake text might be always detected. They pointed out that plagiarism is a violation of the law and focused on the moral side of copying.
We are constantly facing the problem of plagiarism and self-plagiarism in publications.
«The anti-plagiarism methods, which have been described during the conference on detection of borrowings, will be used in the preparation of university scientific publications», stressed Irina Andrianova.
