In December, the Preparatory Faculty of PetrSU sums up the interim results of distance learning among attendees

Despite the fact that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the faculty had to temporarily postpone many teaching forms and methods, meetings with students, which have become a tradition over the years of work, digital technologies have provided a new impetus for the faculty development, discovered teachers’ potential. Preparation for admission to a university has become closer to the attendees, while the interaction with the parents of future applicants has improved. With the support of the Regional Center for New Information Technologies (RCNIT) and the electronic educational resources division of the Directorate for Education and Methodology of PetrSU, the Preparatory Faculty of PetrSU entered the 2020/2021 academic year in a different way of providing the education.

Since October, groups of participants of the citizens of the Russian Federation have been trained in selected educational areas via Zoom online classes. The future students also have access to educational and test materials in Moodle. Thanks to the teachers, an atmosphere of real interaction is created during online classes. Videos of completed lessons are uploaded to Moodle, hence, attendees can return to the most difficult topics. The new learning mode allowed to attract applicants not only from Petrozavodsk and other places of the Republic of Karelia, but also from the Belgorod, Vologda, Leningrad, Murmansk, Yaroslavl regions.

Restriction of entry to the territory of the Russian Federation for foreign citizens of most other countries, where applicants usually come from to the Preparatory Faculty of PetrSU, also did not delay the start of the academic year. In the fall semester, participants from China, Africa, Jordan, Colombia, Turkey, Mexico began to study Russian online. The main advantage of the "digital" Preparatory Faculty for foreigners is the opportunity to study without additional financial costs, without leaving the country, in their normal living environment, with a greater concentration on studies.
