International Scientific School of Fish Breeders
On November, 15-17, the Department of Animal Breeding, Fishery and Merchandizing of PetrSU jointly with the Department of Ichthyology and Fish Farming of Belarusian State Agricultural Academy organized the International Scientific School of Fish Breeders.
The event was attended by students of PetrSU, BSAA and Vologda State Dairy Farming Academy. The speakers represented the enterprises of the fishery complex sharing their extensive experience in the aquaculture products’ organization and production.
During the first day, the attendants got acquainted with the current situation and problems of the fishing industry in the Republic of Karelia. Vitaly Artamonov, the Chairman of the Karelian Trout Farmers Society, delivered a report on this topic. Under the guidance of Tatiana Poyarkova, a lecturer from the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies, Department of Animal Breeding, Fishery and Merchandizing, the audience studied in detail the biological characteristics of popular fish farming objects and got acquainted with the experience of using modern DNA technologies in aquaculture, including the first results of research work carried out in this area by the Department.
During the second day, students studied the main technological processes in Fish Cage Farming, feed and feeding methods, mechanization and automation of the main production processes at fish farms. The regional representative of “Biomar” limited liability company Alexander Belyaev together with Evgenii Tikhonov, the Director of the Engineering Park, Associate Professor of Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences, presented their reports on these topics. The audience was very interested in the lectures on the state of health and diagnostics of the most dangerous diseases of trout in aquaculture, which was delivered by Elizaveta Edykhanova, the Technical Specialist in Aquaculture of the largest international company Skretting.
In the final part Nikolai Barulin, the Head of the Department of Ichthyology and Fish Farming of Belarusian State Agricultural Academy, gave an overview lecture on the design of modern closed water supply systems and the experience of their usage in aquaculture in Belarus.
