The webinar on Green Procurement was organised and held by the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences, with the support of Karelian Regional Institute of Continuing Professional Education.

The webinar on Green Procurement was organised and held by the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences, with the support of Karelian Regional Institute of Continuing Professional Education. It was dedicated to the relevant aspects of the introduction of goods and services with the imposed environmental requirements.

The webinar convened over 40 Russian and foreign specialists in the field of construction, housing and public utilities, municipal management, forestry, as well as university students studying these issues. The webinar was held by the partners of the project KO-1089 "Green Arctic Building - GraB" implemented within the framework of the Kolarctic Cross-Border Cooperation Programme. 

During webinar program, Mr. Matti Kuittinen, Chief Specialist of the Finnish Ministry of Environment, reported on low-carbon solutions for the building and construction in the Arctic zone. Mr. Pekka Vuorinen, Environmental and Energy Director of the Confederation of Finnish Construction Industries, shared with the audience his considerations on how principles of standardization applied in the procurement can help reduce negative environmental impacts. Professor Kari Thunshelle, Senior Research Scientist at the Research Institute for Sustainable Development (SINTEF, Norway), spoke about the sustainable solutions and environmental materials for deep renovation of houses and constructions in Norway. Elena Shadrina, Deputy Director of the Perm Campus of the National Research University Higher School of Economics, shared the experience and prospects for the development of green government procurement in the Russian Federation. 

Summing up the results of the webinar, the participants concluded that if the environmental requirements were applied in the procurement, the state could become a strong driving force of sustainable production and consumption providing the well-being growth without compromising society and environment. 

The organizers of the webinar thanked all speakers for their reports and the participants for interesting questions. Special gratitude was conveyed to Antti Niemi (University of Oulu, Finland) for hosting the webinar, Bjørn Reidar Sørensen (UiT, Norway) for the welcoming speech, Denis Pyzhikov (PetrSU) for the organizational aspects of preparing and holding the webinar and  interpreter Nadezhda Shablikova for language support.
