PetrSU Participated in a Wastewater Treatment Project
PetrSU participates in Karelia CBC program (KA4020) «Reaching congenial region through valorisation of municipal and industrial waste waters and sludge».
Since the end of June, LLC «Karelvodokanal» (Sortavala) jointly with Petrozavodsk State University have launched a pilot experiment on composting waste water sludge.
«Currently, we have two pilotsites: composting with mechanical mixing of the storage piles and pressure aeration. The operating procedure has been developed. Sludge samples have been collected. The weather is very hot in Karelia now, so the equipment operates at night, and the storage piles shall be regularly moistened.

The composting site features all stages of waste management. Chief technologist Svetlana Gorinaspoke about specifics of waste formation and plans of «PKS-Vodokanal» (Petrozavodsk) for sludge dewatering equipmentupdate.
Andrey Skvortsov, employee of wastewater treatment plant, has planted potatoes and beans into produced soil. There is obviously high germination rate.
A constructive dialogue was held during the meeting, representatives from Sortavala embarked on adjusting the processin view of the obtained experience.
