Petrozavodsk Became a New Centre for Studying and Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language
PetrSU hosted the International Scientific and Methodological Conference "Relevant Issues of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language in Modern Education - 2021", organized by the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language of the Institute of Philology and the Preparatory Faculty (PetrSU).
The conference convened over 80 specialists in the field of teaching Russian as a foreign language from Russia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Italy, China, Lebanon, Poland, Slovakia and Finland. The participants represented leading Russian and international universities, institutes, language centers and schools.
Petrozavodsk welcomed a number of specialists in Russian as a foreign language from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kursk, Chelyabinsk, Pyatigorsk, Tula, Ivanov. All of them represented the leading Russian universities, including Moscow State University, Saint Petersburg State University, the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, the Moscow State University of Design and Technology, Tula State University, Pyatigorsk State University, the Southwest State University, Chelyabinsk State Pedagogical University, Moscow State University of Civil Engineering, Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University and others.
The purpose of the conference was to exchange experience in teaching Russian as a foreign language in modern education and to discuss relevant issues of teaching Russian as a foreign language and special disciplines in Russian for a foreign language audience. The conference was held in offline and online formats. Thus, the plenary session and sections "Digital technologies and professionally oriented teaching of Russian as a foreign language", "Problematic zones of Russian vocabulary and grammar. Professionally oriented teaching of Russian as a foreign language" were held offline, while the section "Russian as a foreign language in modern education: problems, solutions, prospects" was conducted on an online platform.
The conference participants discussed the problematic areas of Russian phonetics, vocabulary and grammar and the usage of various linguodidactic approaches in teaching Russian as a foreign language. Much attention was paid to the current issues related to the use of modern information technologies in teaching Russian, the creation and development of electronic resources for foreign students, the specifics of teaching Russian online.
The participants noted not only the high level of professional discussion, but also the excellent management of the conference, which should become an example for such events. The organizers resolved to apply to the International Association of Teachers of Russian Language and Literature in order to include it in the scientific events held annually under its auspices.
Summarizing the results, the organizers will publish an electronic collection of academic papers of the conference.
