Participation in the Oxford’s Webinar "Culture clash and identity loss: University mergers in Russia"
Irina Chepurina, a postgraduate student, senior teacher of the Department of German Philology and Scandinavian Studies of the Institute of Philology, took part in the Oxford’s webinar.
The University of Oxford held an international webinar "Culture clash and identity loss: University mergers in Russia" dedicated to the cultural issues of mergers of Russia’s universities. Irina Chepurina, a postgraduate student, senior teacher of the Department of German Philology and Scandinavian Studies of the Institute of Philology, took part in it.
The webinar was organized by the Center for Global Higher Education of the University of Oxford. Ksenia Romanenko, Associate Professor, Co-head of the program “Evidence-based Educational Policy” presented a report on the results of Russia’s universities from the cultural point of view.
“The main scientific interest was the issue of cultural values during the merger of universities and the formation of new higher educational institutions. The speaker analyzed cultural values, as well as conflicts related to the changes in the student environment by conducting interviews, polls, petitions and observing the university's image in the society.
As an example of one of the conflict situations during the merger of universities, the speaker took the events that are considered to be culturally significant only by students of one institute. The webinar participants listened with great interest to the presentation, asked questions, which means that the topic is relevant not only for the Russian educational environment,”
