The Institute of Philology became one of the Russia’s representatives at the 8th International Youth Forum "Youth of Eurasia – for Peace!", held in Minsk, Belarus.

The forum gathered together the high school- and university students from Russia, Ukraine, Donetsk People’s Republic, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kirgizia, and Belarus.

The Forum’s topic was dedicated to historical and cultural memory, the maintenance of which is an essential part of peace reinforcement. Nizhny Novgorod, Sevastopol and Petrozavodsk represented Russia there.

Petrozavodsk team included Alina Bezmen and Elizaveta Myugyanen, the students of the Institute of Philology, as well as Varvara Lozovskaya, a student from Pryazha Secondary School. Anna Skoropadskaya, the Deputy Director of the Institute of Philology, was the head of the team.

The Forum’s program was very diverse: every day participants took part in a variety of master classes, trainings, excursions, trips, projects and small talks.

The language of communication within the forum participants was Russian, and many events were focused on the Great Patriotic War.

The Great Patriotic War is the largest and most tragic event in the history of the 20th century, affecting every family in the former Soviet republics. Forum’s participants shared stories about their ancestors who participated in the War, survived the horrors of the occupation of the home front. Varvara Lozovskaya spoke about her participation in the search party: together with her mother, she goes on an expedition "Following the Lost Aircraft" and personally excavates the remains of soldiers who died during the battles that took place on the Karelian territory in 1941-1943.

The communication allowed the Forum’s participants feel the historical and cultural ties, which became the basis for the emerging international friendship.
