International Cooperation Between Karelia and Belarus
Petrozavodsk State University welcomed the Dean of the Engineering Faculty of Polessky State Univesity, Doctor of Agricultural Sciences, Associate Professor of the Department of Aquaculture Technology Viktor Shumak.
During the visit, Viktor Shumak visited the research laboratories of the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies, Aquaculture Research Center, recirculating aquaculture system and aquariums, as well as the Center for Artificial intelligence and Engineering Center of the Institute of Forestry, Mining and Construction Sciences, participated in the Aquaculture section of the 75th Student Scientific Conference of Young Scientists of PetrSU and delivered an open lecture on Technologies of Pond Fish Farming in Belarus for the 3rd and 4th year students of the Water Bioresources and Aquaculture program.
At this time, Petrozavodsk hosted the international conference for aquaculture entrepreneurs “Fish in Karelia. Technologies. Processing. Wastes”. The Belorussian guest attended this event as well.
Interesting topics of the reports convened people engaged in production and processing of fish products: fish farmers, representatives of business, science, and education. The participation in the conference of the representative from Belarus allowed exchanging experience, which is without a doubt particularly relevant for the fish farming today. The format of the event facilitated exchange of contacts, interested parties outlined new ways for interaction in production, practical training and employment of graduates of Polessky and Petrozavodsk State Universities.
At the end of the visit, the guest visited one of the best fish farms in Karelia, a reliable partner of PetrSU in practical training of aquaculture specialists and research work of students and employees of the Department of Zootechnics, Fish Farming, Agronomy and Land Management – OOO “Karelskie rybnye zavody-PM”. At the meeting with the workers of the farm, those present discussed the technologies of producing rainbow trout seedings and issues of the industry at the modern stage.
By the results of the visit, partners determined the main ways of cooperation between PetrSU and PolesSU in the field of specialists training for aquaculture, network education of students and practical training, as well as prospects for implementation of joint research projects in selective stock breeding and improvement of efficiency in fish farming.
