PetrSU Students Studying Chinese Learn the Traditions of China

On October 3, a festive event was held at the Institute of Philology on the occasion of the main national holiday of China - the Founding Day of the People's Republic of China.

Chinese language teachers at the Institute of Philology Zhao Linlin and Sofya Khayainen told students and guests of the event about the history and traditions of the holiday, and the students studying Chinese recited poems and performed the famous Chinese song 《茉莉花》 (“Jasmine”). In addition, the event participants watched the ceremony of raising the national flag in Tiananmen Square in Beijing, and also listened to the Chinese anthem.

At the end of the event, those present took part in a quiz, in which all participants showed a high level of understanding of the new information.

The holiday was organized specifically for undergraduate students studying the program "Russian as a Foreign Language, Chinese language" to immerse them in the history and culture of the country of the language they are studying as well as give them a sense of belonging to this holiday, despite the significant geographical distance between Petrozavodsk and the People's Republic of China.
