As part of the international project "Cultural Bridge: Russia - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan", the Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics Andery Kotov conducted online lectures on "Linguistic View of the World" for the 1st year students of the Faculty of World Languages of the Ishokkhon Ibrat Namangan Institute of Foreign Languages (Republic of Uzbekistan) and the 2nd year students of the Faculty of Russian Philology of Osh State University (Republic of Kyrgyzstan).

The lecture covered many issues that are relevant to modern linguistics. What is the linguistic picture of the world and how does it differ from the scientific one? How do we see the world around us through the prism of language? How similar or different is this worldview among different peoples? Do we live in the same world or different worlds? and etc.

In total, more than 140 people attended the lectures. The lecture evoked a lively response from listeners and colleagues, and the lecture format switched several times to the format of dialogue with students.

Aziza Mirzanazarova, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Russian and Uzbek Languages, Ishokkhon Ibrat Namangan Institute of Foreign Languages (Republic of Uzbekistan):

“The information received by students during an open lecture on the linguistic picture of the world contributed to their immersion in a cross-cultural atmosphere of a regional geography nature. Such classes are very important, they help students better understand the Russian language through the prism of history, traditions and the worldview of a people with centuries-old traditions!”

Zanfira Miskichekova, Associate Professor of the Department of World Literature, Faculty of Russian Philology, Osh State University (Republic of Kyrgyzstan), Head of the Russian Center at the Osh branch of the Russian State Social University:

“We express our gratitude to the Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics of Petrozavodsk State University Andrey Kotov for the insightful, professionally composed lecture dedicated to the linguistic picture of the world.

The lecture was useful and informative for the students of the Faculty of Russian Philology; they expanded their knowledge, broadened their horizons, and without leaving the country became familiar with the rich heritage of the Russian language - the language of world culture. The students were interested in analyzing phraseological units and finding semantic similarities in the Russian and Kyrgyz languages. We will be waiting for Andrei Kotov’s lectures and seminars offline in February next year; we really look forward to our meeting.”

The events of the project of the Karelian regional public organization "Cultural Code of Karelia" and the Interregional public organization "Poetry Theater "Credo" "Cultural Bridge: Russia - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan" are held from July 2023 to April 2024 with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund, the “Russian World” Foundation, Petrozavodsk State University, Administration of Petrozavodsk City District, Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia.
