Egor Starkov Shared His Impressions of Studying in the Republic of Belarus
Egor Starkov is a third-year student of Petrozavodsk State University. He is studying animal husbandry at the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agrotechnology. In the fall semester of 2023 he took part in the academic mobility program and was recommended by Petrozavodsk State University to study at the Belarusian State of the Orders of the October Revolution and the Order of the Labour Red Banner Agricultural Academy, which is located in the town of Gorki, Republic of Belarus.
“I am interested in the development and state of agriculture in other countries, thus I had a desire to visit the Republic of Belarus.
Belarusian State Agriculture Academy is the largest multidisciplinary higher education institution among the CIS countries and Europe, the history of which dates back to 1840. There are 16 academic buildings, 14 student dormitories, a library with a book collection of more than one million copies and a canteen with 800 seats on the campus territory.
The Academy provides practice-oriented training of students, which involves the following: veterinary clinic, botanical garden, bee apiary, farm animal reproduction laboratory and others. For leisure activities there are the Student Art Creativity Center, sports complex with a stadium, swimming pool and modern sports ground, etc.
I was checked into the dormitory, which is a modern block-type building with comfortable conditions for students.
Owing to the class leader’s support and her well-coordinated team, my adaptation was quick. I was kindly welcomed in the group and the relationships between all of us were trusting and friendly. We had the same subjects as in PetrSU.
I managed to make new acquaintances and new friends. I really liked the local products, especially the ice cream!
It was a great pleasure to attend such a discipline as "Horse breeding". Our Professor Svetlana Nikolaevna Pochkina used examples from her professional experience during the material explanation. I consider her teaching method as fascinating and successful! In addition, practical manuals of the Professor A.V. Solyanik on "Pig Breeding" deserve special attention from the industry specialists.
During our studying, we frequently visited livestock enterprises, where we were told about the systems of feeding, housing and animal care, dairy cattle breeding technologies, carrying out zoohygienic and preventive measures, etc. I am very grateful for it to the Professor O.A. Vasilevskaya.
During the entire training period, there were no difficulties in studying.
The academic mobility program provides students with an opportunity to not only get new knowledge, but also to meet new people, gain invaluable experience from their professors, find new perspectives in the industry, and improve themselves. If you are into travelling and learning something new too, the program is definitely for you!”
