125 scientific conferences were held in 2023 on the basis of PetrSU. 

  • Four master's theses and two doctoral dissertations were defended by faculty members and graduate students in the fields of medicine, history, physics, mathematics, and technical sciences.
  • Within the state assignment from the Russian Federation's Ministry of Education and Science, the following projects were completed:
  • "Development of a high-level information system to support strategic management decision-making" (supervisor: A.P. Sokolov);
  • "Development of scientific and methodological support for the selection of current dissertation topics within specific scientific fields (using education sciences as an example)" (supervisor: V.A. Gurtov);
  • "Scientific and methodological support for evaluating the scientific potential of young candidates and doctors of sciences, crucial for advancing Russian technological platforms and implementing strategic directions of digital transformation in priority sectors of the Russian economy by analyzing the dissertation abstracts content using neural networks." (supervisor: L.V. Shchegoleva);
  • "Development of scientific and methodological support based on digital data showcases to assess the compliance of publication activity results of degree candidates and members of dissertation councils with the criteria set by the Higher Attestation Commission. The showcases are established through orders from the Ministry of Education and Science of Russia and independently created by organizations, in the context of transitioning to a new register of scientific publications for Russian scientists." (supervisor: E.A. Pitukhin).
  • The projects received support from the Russian Science Foundation:
  • "Method for determining the remoteness of death using microbiological markers (Microexpress case system)" (supervisor - O.S. Lavrukova);
  • "The European North of Russia as a frontier for territorial development: ethno-social landscape, borders, statistical and structural changes (19th-20th centuries)" (supervisor - O.I. Kulagin);
  • "Feed additives for improving productivity and enhancing resistance of rainbow trout in aquaculture: application technology for ensuring biosafe products" (supervisor - N.A. Sidorova);
  • "Development of Mott coating to improve the stability of superconducting systems" (supervisor - V.S. Ignakhin);
  • "Model of postactivation effect on skeletal muscles for studying neurophysiological mechanisms and diagnosing muscle tone disturbances in Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis" (supervisor - A.Y. Meigal);
  • "Development of an expert module for machine learning in predictive analytics and prediction of pre-eclampsia based on artificial intelligence technologies" (supervisor - A.A. Ivshin);
  • "Diachronic rhetoric: language and syllables in Theophan Prokopovich's poetic works in relation to tropo- and figure formation" (supervisor - N.V. Patroeva);
  • "Poetics of the North in the works of Russian and Scandinavian writers of the 20th-21st centuries" (supervisor - N.G. Sharapenkova).
  • Work on a major project of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation called "Multi-component hardware and software complex for automated collection, storage, markup of research and clinical biomedical data, their unification and analysis in data centers based on artificial intelligence algorithms and predictive analytics with subsequent implementation of innovative technologies in research and educational activities, practical medicine, and real clinical practice" has been completed (supervisor: A.T. Balashov). The project was implemented in 14 organizations.
  • Under the Program of Support of Applied Research and Development of Students and Postgraduates of PetrSU, 28 project groups consisting of students, postgraduates of PetrSU and young scientists made significant contributions to the innovative development of economic sectors and the social sphere for 2022-2023 (funded by grants from the Head of the Republic of Karelia).
  • Opti-Soft, a small innovative enterprise of PetrSU, was awarded the International PulpFor Awards, which confirms international recognition in the category of "IT-systems, automation, and digitalization for the pulp and paper industry." The company received this prestigious award for its significant technological achievements and contributions to the industry's development.
  • 11 expeditions were conducted in the Arctic regions of the Republic of Karelia, resulting in the study of the region's socio-economic, cultural, and linguistic landscape, the region's biological diversity, and the state of the coastal environment of the White Sea. Additionally, the potential for tourism in these areas was evaluated and tourist routes were developed. Moreover, museum exhibits were cataloged and museum expositions were created, while the study of museum funds and traditional crafts technologies took place.
  • 4 scientific journals were classified in the 1st category of the Higher Attestation Commission List: "Continuing Education: XXI Century" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. T.A. Babakova), "Problems of Historical Poetics" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. V.N. Zakharov), "Problems of Analysis - Issues of Analysis" (Editor-in-Chief - Dr. V.V. Starkov), and "University Management: Practice and Analysis" (Editor-in-Chief - A.K. Klyuev), which is listed in the 3rd quartile (Q3) of Scopus.
  • 4 scientific journals were classified in the 2nd category of the Higher Attestation Commission List: "Unknown Dostoevsky" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. V.N. Zakharov), which is listed in the 3rd quartile (Q3) of Scopus; "Principles of Ecology" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. A.V. Korosov); "Scientific Notes of Petrozavodsk State University" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. E.S. Senyavskaya); and "Resources and Technology" (Editor-in-Chief - Prof. S.B. Vasiliev).
  • The electronic scientific magazine Studia Humanitatis Borealis (Editor-in-Chief - Associate Professor A.V. Volkov) was registered as a Mass Media on May 19, 2023.
