Happy Chinese New Year! 春节快乐!
On the eve of the holiday, it is customary in China to gather with relatives around a large table since the Chinese New Year is a special time for family reunions.
Students from the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics, who are studying Chinese, also joined their Chinese teachers in celebrating this significant holiday.
During the holidays, groups of the first-year and second-year students studied chosen topics concerning the history, traditions, and culture of China and later delivered informative and captivating presentations during the celebration. Students gave presentations on Chinese holidays, discussing the importance of gifts and greetings, traditional sports, the history of particular dynasties, the traditional hanfu costume, as well as attitudes towards pets and Chinese memes. Additionally, the first-year students performed a popular Chinese New Year song 《拜新年》.
Zhao Yitian, a special guest from China who is currently studying at PetrSU, attended the festival. She greatly enjoyed the students' performances and highly valued their level of preparation.
What could we do without special New Year decorations in the Chinese language classroom? For the next two weeks the windows of the classroom will be covered in vibrant red festive patterns (窗花) that can even be seen from the street.
