PetrSU Is Participating in the International Project "Cultural Bridge: Russia - Kyrgyzstan - Uzbekistan"
From February 7th to 9th, 2024, Andrey Alexandrovich Kotov, the Head of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics, and Olga Valentinovna Semenova, an Associate Professor of the Department, conducted open lectures, methodological seminars, and round tables in educational institutions in Osh, Kyrgyzstan. The range of topics was primarily focused on the study of Russian as a foreign and non-native language, the specific methods of teaching special disciplines in a foreign language classroom, the reflection of ethnic historical and cultural elements in language, and the development of an ethnically specific linguistic worldview.
In the Republic of Kyrgyzstan, the Russian language is as an official language and education in Russian is available at all levels. Considering these circumstances, the professional community of Russian language teachers and educational institutions in Osh showed great interest in the visit that the originally planned program was significantly expanded.
PetrSU professors visited several departments of Osh State University, the largest university in Kyrgyzstan, including the Department of Russian Philology, International Medical Faculty, and Industrial and Pedagogical College. They also visited Osh State Pedagogical University, Kyrgyz-Uzbek International University and the Osh branch of the Russian State Social University (RSSU). Additionally, they visited the Russian Center at the Osh branch of RSSU.
In addition to giving open lectures and practical classes to students, they conducted methodological seminars for Russian language teachers in the Osh region as part of their professional development courses at the Osh Institute of Education. All educational institutions expressed interest in collaborating with PetrSU in the fields of science and education, including joint scientific events, distance lectures, and academic exchange.
Crowded classes, numerous questions, lively discussions, sincere interest from both students and teachers, and many letters of gratitude are clear evidence of the enduring fascination with the Russian language and culture. Overall, approximately 600 people participated in the events highlighting their relevance. The visit had extensive media coverage.
The project is implemented through the initiative of the Interregional Public Organization "Kredo Poetry Theatre" and the Karelian Regional Public Organization "Cultural Code of Karelia" with the support of the Presidential Grants Fund and the “Russian World” Foundation. The partners include the Administration of Petrozavodsk City District, Petrozavodsk State University, the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Karelia and the Ministry of National and Regional Policy of the Republic of Karelia. Inga Gaevskaya, a graduate of the Faculty of Philology at Petrozavodsk State University, leads the project.
