Meeting with the Scientists from the Ocean University of China

A Russian-Chinese meeting on the issues of international cooperation in the field of Arctic medicine was held. The meeting was attended by leading scientists from the Zilber Medical Institute, the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agrotechnology of Petrozavodsk State University and the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy of the Ocean University of China (OUC, Qingdao, China). The event was held in online format on the platform of the Centre ‘Boiling Point - Petrozavodsk’ with the assistance and technical support of the Directorate for International Affairs and the Arctic Centre of INEAS PetrSU (Institute of Northern European and Arctic Studies).

The participants discussed promising research directions, assessed the current state and possibilities of scientific research base development, practical significance of the planned researches, necessary resources and formats for further interaction between scientific teams of the two universities.

Arctic medicine has been of interest to international research teams for many years. In the opinion of Chinese colleagues, scientific research in the Arctic should be based on verified scientific data, be cross-disciplinary in nature, be action-oriented and have measurable results.

Through the introduction of advanced technologies and more intensive exchange of experience, this approach will improve the understanding of natural and climatic processes in the Arctic region, which in turn will contribute to solving global challenges. As a result of the meeting, both sides expressed their intention to prepare proposals for inclusion in the roadmap for cooperation between PetrSU and the OUK.

Arctic Centre of PetrSU
