Russian-Chinese Language Club Starts Its Work
The language club is one of the practical aspects of the implementation of the cooperation agreement between Petrozavodsk State University and Petrozavodsk State Glazunov Conservatoire.
The objective of the club is to make introductions and connections between the Chinese students of the conservatoire and Russian students studying Chinese and Russian as a foreign language.
The initial meeting was held at the conservatoire and was organized by experienced teachers of Russian as a foreign language — Yekaterina Velikanova, Marina Rudina and Olga Semyonova.
More than 30 people participated in the event. Warm and friendly atmosphere helped to overcome language and cultural barriers and gave a feeling of long acquaintance. The students actively discussed their studies, difficulties in learning foreign languages, hobbies, free time etc. The students of PetrSU received an unexpected gift from one of the Chinese students — Chinese translation of Leo Tolstoy's 'Anna Karenina', published in China.
Olga Semyonova, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian as a Foreign Language and Applied Linguistics of PetrSU, co-organizer of the language club, shares her impressions:
“Such meetings contribute to the improvement of knowledge in the field of studying Chinese and Russian. Apart from their practical aspect, the meetings are, to some extent, a cultural bridge between Russia and China, helping the participants to better understand the culture of the two countries. During the first meeting, the Chinese students talked about some of the sights, culture, and traditional spiritual values of China.
The language club meetings are planned to be held on a regular basis. The next meeting is going to take place in late October or early November. The organizers hope to welcome more participants at the club.
