Employees of the Institute of Biology, Ecology and Agricultural Technologies and the Research Center for Aquaculture of PetrSU Conducted a Scientific Expedition
Students and postgraduates of the Department of Animal Science, Fish Farming, Agronomy and Land Management take an active part in this work. For them, this is a good experience in conducting research, participating in the scientific work of the department, as well as an opportunity to interact with enterprises working in various areas of the fisheries sector.
On June 3, a trip to a fish hatchery took place as part of the research work "Comparative analysis of the quality of planting material of rainbow trout of the Danish AquaSearch line, grown in the conditions of the Kedrozersky fish farm in 2024 - 2025".
The main task is to monitor the condition and assess the quality of planting material of rainbow trout of different generations, as well as develop methods for increasing the efficiency of its cultivation. Director of the Aquaculture Research Center S.V. Matrosova and Head of the Department of Animal Science, Fish Farming, Agronomy and Land Management A.Yu. Volkova assessed the condition of rainbow trout fry of winter and spring incubation. Samples were collected for laboratory testing and the conditions for growing the planting material were assessed.
A tour of the enterprise territory and the main production areas was conducted for the students and specialists of PetrSU who came to the fish hatchery. The plant workers showed how the incubation and rearing area and the water supply system are carried out, told about the advantages of incubating trout eggs in tray-type devices and about the seasonal features of egg incubation at the production site of the Kedrozersky fish hatchery.
The Kedrozersky fish hatchery is the most important partner of PetrSU and the Aquaculture Research Center, cooperation with which is based on practical training and joint research work. This platform has been a good base for practical training and employment of PetrSU graduates for many years. This year, students were also invited to participate in the next incubation, which will take place in August 2025.
