Scientific Cooperation between BSU and PetrSU
Philology students of PetrSU and Belarusian State University shared the results of their research.
The Department of Classical Philology, Russian Literature and Journalism of PetrSU has been conducting long and fruitful cooperation with the Department of Classical Philology of Belarusian State University (Minsk). Student science became one of the cooperation areas between these two departments.
Thus, the section "Greco-Roman Legacy in World Culture: Traditions and Modernity", being a part of the 74th All-Russian (with international participation) Scientific Conference among Students and Young Researchers, included reports by Belarusian students.
The section was of a hybrid nature.
The research question of Petrozavodsk students was the figurative and motivic structure of the Roman authors’ texts (Horace, Martial), the traditions of ancient culture in Russian literature (on the example of the works of Alexander Blok, Venedikt Yerofeyev, Henry Lion Oldie), translation practices (Constantine P. Cavafy translated by Gennady Shmakov and Iosif Brodski, folk Greek poetry in translations of Apollon Maykov).
The scientific research of the Belarusian students was devoted to the Latin inscriptions of the Corpus Christi Church in Nesvizh, to the Greek quotations on church items from the collection of the Minsk Theological Academy, as well as to the Latin-language legend engraved by Erik Dahlbergh (XVII century).
Anna Skorodaskaia:
“Participation in the student conference from different universities is an important condition for the experience exchange. It is especially important for those who study classical philology since this program is conducted at few universities. Communication with Belarusian colleagues opens up new horizons for research in classical philology both for us and for our students. It turns out that classical philologists can realize their research potential in the study of not only ancient literature, but also Russian literature, modern literature. On the example of the Belarusian students’ research, it’s evident how essential the knowledge of ancient languages is when it comes to the description and study of historical monuments, which are preserved in abundance on the territory of Minsk and Belarus.”
